Polynesian Chicken Wings

1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1/3 cup pineapple preserves
1/4 cup pineapple juice
2 tbsp lime juice
1 tsp grated lime zest
1/4 tsp minced garlic
1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
3 lbs chicken wings, about 18, tips removed
Prepare grill for indirect-heat cooking. Combine all ingredients except chicken in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil. Cook, stirring occasionally, until thickened, about 10 minutes. Remove from heat. Divide mixture and set aside. Grill skin side down over direct heat until lightly browned, 2 to 3 minutes. Transfer to indirect heat. Brush wings with 1/2 of the divided mixture. Turn chicken skin side up, cover; grill for 10 minutes per side or until juices run clear. Brush wings several times with the remaining mixture during the last 10 minutes of cooking.
